With reviews from three different NTOA members, the Propper Bailout Bag received their seal of approval garnering an overall score of 3.88 out of a possible 5 with its design, performance, and durability praised across the board.
I was asked to test and evaluate the Propper Bail Out Bag. The bag dimensions are 11” length X 5” wide and 9” deep, this mid-size bag was great for a behind the seat placement. I ended up loading the bag out with a series of active shooter supplies. The size of the bag also allowed me to incorporate various medical supplies for multiple casualties in addition to the tactical related items. The bag features are as follows â? The bail out design has a padded shoulder strap which made it comfortable when loaded. The bag has MOLLE panels in the front, and inside. There is a convenient elastic mesh side pocket and on the opposite side, there is a MOLLE lined side pocket. On the back side of the bag the design consisted of three M4 magazine pouches. I found the loop-lined interior panel to be very useful; the loop allowed the application of secondary market hook components. The zipper pulls were made with a rubber-covered grip that allowed for easy access into the interior compartments. I received the black bag for testing. Propper also makes this bag in coyote. I would recommend this bag if you are looking for a mid-size bail-out type bag.
Overall this bag is a fairly simple, no major frills design. However, it has solid features, is well built, is pretty rugged and handles the job that it was designed to do as an active shooter kit pretty well. The bag has a shoulder stray that is adjustable and has a movable carry pad. The shoulder strap can also be easily removed. It has two large internal pockets, one that is loop Velcro lined for attaching Velcro-backed pouches, and the other pocket which has Molle webbing lining on one side for the attachment of Molle pouches and gear inside the bag. The outside of the bag on one side also has Molle webbing while the opposite side has three covered AR-15 mag pouches. On one end of the bag is open top mesh pouch and the opposite side has a taller zippered pouch. One nice feature that I really liked about the bag was the zipper pulls, which were large and easy to grasp, and quickly unzipped the bag. The two main large pockets also have lots of room on the inside for numerous items of gear that are necessity in a go-bag, such as chem-lights, trauma kits, flashlights, ammo, mags, etc. The bag can be customized for whatever type of gear you want to carry based on Velcro and Molle attachments inside the bag, so it is very customizable overall. This bag would also work as a range bag or a just a spare bag to carry ammo and other tac-gear when traveling or moving from vehicle to vehicle for different operations. Overall, the bag is made to be user-friendly and to customize it to what you need it to do. This bag is not a one-trick pony. It is well built and is a simple design that works great and is effective.
Propper did a pretty decent job here with this bailout bag. We tested the usability and functionality of the back in a few simulated scenarios with tactically-inclined patrol officers. The design is similar to many other bail out bags, but does offer some unique bonuses, for example, the MOLLE on the front of the bag is a nice touch for mounted items that need immediate access. In addition, the first compartment with a velcro-compatible lining is very convenient, making it easy to mount and adjust velcro accessories. The larger compartment also featured a nice velcro-compatible lining on one side and an 8 by 7 MOLLE pattern (very handy for mounting TQ and other pouches). On the backside, the 3 rifle magazine pouches offer a capacity for 6 30-round rifle magazines, which is a big plus. Overall, if the bag is prepared well, it can be structured in a way that the contents don move out of place when exposed to turbulent conditions. There was also some nice attention to detail with the velcro backing in the front, MOLLE on the side of the bag, as well as comfortable rubber pull tabs for the zippers. The scenarios in which the bag were tested in included active shooter and officer rescue. The biggest complaint regarding the bag was the size and weight (completely full), once combined with a plate carrier, and long rifle/shotgun (slung). It did appear to be a bit cumbersome, however, with continuous training, it can be managed. Although, a smaller dimension bag, by a few inches in length and width, could prove to be more efficient for some. As for application, the officers found that all the equipment that they needed for a moderate length confrontation, advanced first-aid and ammunition, was available to them with this bag. As for the SWAT operators, this bag proved as a useful addition to the contents of the primary transport vehicle. It was outfitted with an IFAK, magazines and ammo, as well as some other tools and gadgets. In SWAT scenarios, it would prove to be very useful for an operator to quickly retrieve or sling around their gear for additional supplies during a confrontation. Overall, this bailout bag is one of the better ones that I’ve trained with, despite the size. Some recommendations I would make for improvement of this product would be to decrease the dimensions slightly, offer another double rifle mag pouch on the backside, MOLLE webbing on the empty inner-lining of the front compartment (its less usable the way it is designed as of now), and a padded, adjustable sling for easier and more comfortable carry.
