The Propper Tactical Vest is a lightweight and well-constructed vest, suitable for personal or work use. The vest I tested was olive in color, but it is available in khaki and black as well. The vest is made from a polyester/cotton canvas material and is treated with DuPont Teflon, which makes it quite durable. I found that the fabric held up well to water and other liquids and resisted tearing and wrinkling. The vest fit comfortably and had ample storage with the pockets. It features waist adjustment straps for a better fit and is very customizable. There are tons of pockets for gear, including some with dividers, mesh and loop fields for personalization. The concealable weapon areas on both left and right sides are also a nice feature, combined with the two-way zipper on the front. One criticism is that the vest is too long if worn while wearing a duty belt or equipment on waist. The vest works better if drop holsters are worn. Also, if wearing the vest as an outer vest for tactical situations, it would be nice if there was a loop field on the back to adhere police ID patches. This is a great vest for administrative police work (e.g. evidence tech, photographer) or leisure activities that require access to a lot of gear. I would not recommend it for patrol functions or tactical situations.
The Propper Tactical Vest is a very durable and lightweight piece of clothing. There are 16 pockets to store almost any item you would need to use on a daily basis. There are large interior mesh dump pockets and large outer storage pockets that have interior pockets to hold pistol magazines. The vest stitching is very strong. I tried to pull the stitching loose at possible wear points of the fabric but was unable to break the stitching by tugging on it. There is an area of loop fabric on the upper left chest area of the vest for patch attachment along with two rows of Molle webbing. I used this vest at the range and used the interior CCW pockets to draw from. The pockets were large enough to get a positive, secure hold on my weapon and draw cleanly with no hang ups. The magazines were easy enough to access from the storage pocket. I poured glasses of water and cranberry juice on the fabric and all of the liquid was repelled successfully with no staining. Overall, this is a very well-constructed and thought out piece of clothing.
I tested the Propper Tactical Vest in olive color. This vest is an outer worn vest for typical range, hunting or overt tactical work. There are numerous pouches on the inside and outside of the vest as well as Molle webbing, all of which add to the effectiveness of the overall vest, but also keep it from being utilized as a concealed carry or low-profile use vest. Like I previously mentioned before, there are tons of pockets on this vest on the inside and outside. There is also a loop-Velcro area for attaching a Velcro badge or other moral-type of patch. Because of all the pockets, the vest is built pretty ruggedly and it is not that lightweight, definitely not lightweight enough for comfortable summer wear. However, the vest is not made for warmth either, as its only function and design is to carry gear and equipment effectively on your person. The sizing of the vest is spot-on as I usually wear a medium to a large in most shirts. The medium that I received fit perfectly over any of my clothing and was not too big or too tight, nor too long. Overall, this is a high quality tactical vest made by Propper. I recommend this vest to anyone looking for a vest where you need to carry lots of equipment, etc. However, you will look like an off-duty cop by wearing this vest in public!
I was never excited about these vests as they are the standard issue "Hey I'm carrying a concealed weapon" outer garment. All of that changed once I put it on. There is a pocket for literally everything. I feel like I am wearing a tactical vest capable of carrying my full load out when I'm wearing it. The vest still screams concealed weapon; however, there are times when that doesn't matter such as IDPA or range/firearms instructor use. This vest is very well made and well laid out. I've washed it a few times and loaded it up with 3 gun gear at the range on a daily basis and there are no signs of fraying or unraveling. My use for this vest may be a little different than what it was intended for but I found it extremely useful just the same. It's excellent for hiking and camping as well. It can cover a concealed weapon and there are pockets for anything that you may need in the woods and then some. I found it to be sized perfectly for a man of my height (5’11".) It hangs down just far enough over the belt to cover a holstered handgun without impeding access. I highly recommend this vest based on its utility and quality.
